COMPANY PROFILE:

"Construction of the Galloway Community Hospital involved most of the engineering complexities of a District General Hospital on a reduced scale. Taylor and Fraser's assistance contributed greatly to the successful completion of the project. Their post occupancy service has also been first rate, which helps greatly with the smooth running of the new facility."
Dumfries and Galloway Health Board.

Healthcare Sector.

Taylor and Fraser has a great deal of experience in delivering high quality Healthcare projects both in terms of new build and refurbishment. Recently, for example the company successfully completed a £7m mechanical and electrical services installation, as part of the Neo-natal and Foetal medicine unit reported at a construction value of £28m, at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

Other projects include a mechanical services installation as part of the £11.5m Integrated Healthcare Facility at Stranraer for NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

Dumfries and Galloway Health Board has been delighted with the services installation, and the outcome of the project as a whole, and has kindly extended an opportunity to prospective Taylor and Fraser clients for them to come and see the end result for themselves. Please contact Taylor and Fraser if this is of interest to you.

As a testament to achieving repeat business, Taylor and Fraser were appointed by NHS Dumfries and Galloway to undertake the refurbishment of five operating theatres on a rolling programme basis, replacing air handling plant and installing a pre-packaged external plant-room.

HAI-SCRIBE

Working in healthcare requires specialist understanding of the particular requirements of the sector. One area that Taylor and Fraser is familiar with is with HAI-SCRIBE.

In September 2008, NHS Facilities Scotland launched an implementation guide for HAI-SCRIBE (Healthcare Associated Infection System for Controlling Risk in the Built Environment) and is aimed at all personnel who may be involved in providing newly built, refurbished or extended healthcare establishments.

  1. Identify the hazard (this may be an actual or potential hazard).
  2. Assess the risk.
  3. Manage the risk (either eliminate the risk or reduce the risk to minimise its impact).

The implications for managing HAI-SCRIBE are wide ranging, but one aspect is the need for all parties to work closely together in order to effectively reduce the opportunity for the spread of infection to patients. Taylor and Fraser has the expertise to be able to undertake complex projects while managing HAI-SCRIBE as an integral part of the project.
